The group meets every Monday evening at the Adderbury Bowls Club, where people of all ages and abilities enjoy an evening strumming and singing popular songs from our Song Books. We also play at various gigs including local care homes, meetings and organized events, where we hand out song books for the audience to join in and sing along with us. Once or twice a year we run classes for beginners, please click on the Classes button above for details. Click on the Diary page for dates and times of our activities. What we currently need is a ukulele bass player.
Membership. - Membership of the ukulele group is free, but we have an agreement with the bowls club who let us use their room for free as long as we all become social members at £7.50 a year. We have use of a large comfortable room with good lighting and a bar at club prices. We practice every Monday evening from 7.00 to 8.30 pm, with an Improver group on Friday mornings.
History. - A few of our original members started played in a group in Hook Norton, but in 2015 they left to form The Adderbury Ukulele Group. Around a dozen players met each week at The Bell Inn in Adderbury, to play a random selection of songs for fun. As requests for the group to entertain at functions started, we became more organized with our own music books and word books for the audience. However, we were still a small group, so in 2017 we advertised, created the website and started beginner lessons. Many new players have joined, but with so many people wanting to learn and attending classes, our numbers had grown to over 50. This gave us a space problem, squeezing into the back room at the pub and having to stop beginner classes. We enjoyed several years playing and being made welcome at The Bell, but in 2019 we decided to enquire about larger premises and were offered the Bowls Club where we are now happily based.
