We have successfully run classes for complete beginners and many are now playing in the main group. We start with the basics of how to hold your ukulele, how to strum and play simple chords while singing songs. Over a 10 week course we gradually increase the number of chords and by the end you will have learned to play 18 different songs and have the confidence to join the main group. Our aim is to get as many people as possible having fun playing and singing songs in the group.
The 10 week course will run at the Adderbury Bowls Club on a Tuesday evenings from 7.00 to 8.00 pm. The cost will be either £45.00 for the course paid at the start or £5.00 each week. We work though the Beginners Book that can be printed off from the Song Books page. All ages are welcome, but juniors, 16 and under, must be accompanied by an adult. Individual lessons can also be arranged. If interested, please apply through the Contact page and we will get back to you.
We can supply ukuleles to borrow, but if you want to buy we recommend a basic soprano ukulele from between £25.00 and £60.00. Though if you have large fingers, you might find a tenor ukulele easier. We also recommend buying a clip on tuner, costing around £7.00. Go to the Links page to see suppliers. You can always drop in on a Monday to see us and ask for advice. Members often have ukuleles for sale.
On Friday mornings we run a drop-in improver's class, costing £3.00 per session. We play songs from our music books, taking our time to practice strumming, forming the chords and singing. We also practice different song that anybody wanted to bring along. From 10:00 to 11:30, we meet at "Let's Play", Twyford Road, Adderbury, OX17 3JL. There is plenty of parking and we have the use of a large room with kitchen facilities. See map below:
