Beginners Classes

Our latest beginner course started in January, and there are currently no plans to begin another. If you are interested in learning to play, please enter your details on the Contact page and we will get back to you. We need a reasonable number of interested people before we can consider starting a new course.

Our courses are designed specifically for complete beginners. There is no need to read music or have any prior musical knowledge, just come along ready to learn how to strum simple chords and enjoy singing songs. We have run lots of classes in the past, and many participants are now playing in the main group. Throughout the course, we work through the Beginner’s Book, which can be downloaded or printed from the Song Books page.

All ages are welcome at our classes; however, juniors aged 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

We can supply ukuleles to borrow at the start of a course. If you wish to buy your own, we recommend a basic soprano ukulele costing between £25 and £60. If you have larger fingers, you may find a tenor ukulele more comfortable. We also recommend purchasing a clip-on tuner (around £7) and a music stand (around £10). You can visit the Links page for recommended suppliers or look on Amazon. You’re also welcome to drop in on a Monday to see us and ask for advice, members often have ukuleles for sale.
