There is nothing planed at the present. We usually run a course of classes at the start of the year and when enough people have applied. If interested, you can register through the Contact page.
We have run many classes in the past for complete beginners and many are now playing in the main group. We start with the basics of how to hold and tune your ukulele, how to strum and play simple chords while singing songs. Over a ten-week course, we work though the Beginners Book that can be printed off from the Song Books page. All ages are welcome at our classes, but juniors, 16 and under, must be accompanied by an adult. There is no need to read music or have any musical knowledge, just have fun and enjoy playing.
We can supply ukuleles to borrow for the start of a course, but if you want to buy, we recommend a basic soprano ukulele from between £25.00 and £60.00. Though if you have large fingers, you might find a tenor ukulele easier. We also recommend buying a clip-on tuner, costing around £7.00. Go to the Links page to see suppliers. You can always drop in on a Monday to see us and ask for advice. Members often have ukuleles for sale.
On Thursday mornings we run a drop-in improver's class, costing £4.00 per session. We play songs from our music books, taking our time to practice strumming, forming the chords and singing. From 10:00 to 11:30, we meet at "St. Hugh's Church Hall, Ruskin Road, Banbury, OX16 9HU. Entrance and parking is round the back of the Church and we have the use of a large room with kitchen facilities. We provide refreshments, but bring your own mug. See map below:
